Central government warns of legal action against those violating the lockdown enforced till March 31

The number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 415 on Monday with the Centre warning of legal action against those violating the lockdown which has been enforced till March 31 to curtail the pandemic. Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged citizens to take the lockdown measures seriously to ensure everyone’s well-being. “I urge state government to do the same,” he posted on the micro-blogging site.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed that the death of a Philippines national in Mumbai was not due to coronavirus but kidney failure, although the patient did test positive later.

In a slew of extraordinary measures to battle the coronavirus threat, which has claimed seven lives so far, the Centre has announced a complete lockdown of 75 districts in 22 States and Union Territories and suspended all passenger trains, inter-state buses and metro services across the country till March 31.

Delhi, Jharkhand, Punjab and Nagaland has declared a statewide lockdown, exempting only essential services, while similar curbs were announced in a number of districts in Bihar, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
