Bangladesh is commemorating the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman this year as Mujib Year

Marking the 101st Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has released a song titled 'Shonar Bangladesh,' featuring an ensemble cast of top ranked music artistes from India.

Produced by the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, the 5 minutes 39 seconds long video song features a presentation of Bangladesh, alongside glimpses of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic March 7 speech in 1971 at the then Race Course in Dhaka to a gathering of over 1 million people.

Bangladesh is celebrating the birth centenary of the country’s Father of Nation as Mujib Year. The song commemorating the Mujib Year has been released on the official YouTube channel of the High Commission.

Seven famous Indian-Bengali singers have lent their voices to the song.

They are Anupam Roy, Rupankar Bagchi, Imon Chakraborty, Saikat Mitra, Somlata Acharya Chowdhury, Jojo Mukherjee and Akash Sen. It is composed by the Indian composer Ashok Bhadra and lyricist Priyo Chaterjee.

“The musical tribute captures a part of the rich life and story that an individual experienced, when dealing with the memory of Bangabandhu,”, according to the description given to the music video in the YouTube channel.

“The lives, the struggles, the war, the victory and the sacrifices which Bangabandhu so gallantly took into his own life as a visionary and as a leader of the world creating trust and confidence in the Bengali identity is captured by the song,” it added.

The concept for the music video has been designed by Shamima Yeasmin Smrite and the sound recording for the song is done by Soumen Pal, while the English subtitles embedded in the video are done by Toufique Hasan.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has the distinction of being the first Bangladeshi mission abroad.
