Attesting to the historical significance of 'Mujib Jackets' made of Khadi, special Khadi Mujib jackets from India will add sheen to celebrations in Dhaka during the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh on March 26-27.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka has placed an order for 100 ‘Mujib Jackets’ ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take part in the birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, golden jubilee of the liberation of Bangladesh and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic ties with India.

Calling the Mujib Jacket historically significant in Bangladesh, Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Vinai Kumar Saxena said that it is a matter of great pride that Mujib jackets made of Khadi will be used as attire during the Bangladesh visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the biggest brand ambassador of Khadi.

“Special Khadi Mujib Jackets will add sheen to the celebrations in Dhaka that will be graced by Hon’ble PM. Khadi was integral to all foreign visits of Gandhiji & our PM is carrying forward legacy to popularize Khadi on global front,” Saxena tweeted on Saturday.

The KVIC Chairman said that the Mujib Jacket is symbolic of the ideology of the great leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman while it has increasingly become a fashion statement for the youths of Bangladesh. Calling Khadi a heritage fabric of India, he said it is a unique blend of tradition and fashion.

Mujib jackets made of Khadi will add significantly to the historical and cultural values of the celebrations and it will also promote Khadi on the global and diplomatic platform in a big way, KVIC Chairman Saxena further added.

The specially designed 'Mujib Jackets' have been made of high quality handcrafted Poly Khadi fabric. The black 'Mujib Jackets' have been designed with 6 buttons, two pockets on the lower half and a front pocket on the left, as worn by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.

In keeping with the eco-friendly nature of the Khadi fabric, the covers for these jackets too have been made of black Khadi cotton fabric with Khadi India’s logo embroidered over it.

These jackets will be carried in specially designed plastic-mixed handmade paper carry bags made at KVIC’s Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI) in Jaipur, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on Saturday.

At the invitation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Bangladesh on March 26 and 27. During the visit, the Indian Prime Minister will attend the National Day programme of Bangladesh on March 26, as the guest of honour.

The visit of the Prime Minister to Bangladesh will be his first visit to a foreign country since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic. It highlights the priority India attaches to Bangladesh.
