The Government of India has committed to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghan people

India has provided another batch of humanitarian assistance consisting of 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine (Covaxin) to Afghanistan.

They were handed over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kabul on Saturday, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Another batch of an additional 500,000 doses would be supplied in coming weeks, the ministry added.

According to the MEA, the Government of India has committed to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghan people consisting of food grains, one million doses of Covid Vaccine and essential life saving drugs.

On December 11 last year, India had sent humanitarian assistance consisting of medical supplies.

The consignment was dispatched on the return flight of an aircraft chartered by the government of India to bring 10 Indians and 94 Afghans from Kabul to New Delhi.

These medicines were handed over to the representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Kabul for being administered at the Indira Gandhi Children Hospital.

"In coming weeks, we would be undertaking the supply of wheat and the remaining medical assistance. In this regard, we are in touch with UN agencies and others for finalizing the modalities for transportation," the MEA said on Saturday.
