Cooperation between India and Germany sends a strong message to the world, Prime Minister Modi said
Meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed to work towards a roadmap for innovation and technology with a view to using scientific and technological knowledge for the economic development of both countries as well as to address global challenges.
According to the vision document on enhancing cooperation in technology and innovation, India and Germany will introduce and develop further the following elements:
1. Energy partnership and clean technologies, including green hydrogen.
2. Strengthen the framework and ecosystem for Indo-German business relations to thrive.
3. Digital technologies, including fintech.
4. Artificial Intelligence (AI).
5. 5G/6G.
Cooperation within the framework of this vision document would take place within the funds allocated by both sides and in accordance with the laws, regulations, and procedures of each country. Cooperation partners from the private sector may include innovative funding methods to further the objectives under this framework.
STRONG TRADE AND ECONOMIC TIES
In his remarks to the media after the talks, Prime Minister Modi said, "India and Germany have strong ties, based on shared democratic values, and a deep understanding of each other's interests. There is also a long history of cultural and economic exchange between the two countries".
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that Germany was India's biggest trading partner in Europe. Germany was also an important source of investment in India, he added.
According to the him, cooperation between India and Germany is not only beneficial for both nations but also sends a positive message to the world.
"People-to-people relations have greatly improved between the two countries, in the last few years. Today, new opportunities are opening up in all sectors due to the 'Make in India' and Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaigns. We're encouraged by Germany's interest in these opportunities," PM Modi said.
Speaking to the media, Chancellor Scholz said that he and Prime Minister Modi were committed to making a free trade deal between India and the European Union finally happen. “It’s an important topic and I will get personally involved,” Scholz said after his meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
He also said that about 1,800 German companies are active in India and have provided thousands of jobs, adding that Germany also wants to benefit from Indian talent.
"We need talent, we need skilled workers. The development of IT and software is booming in India and many companies are here in India. India has so much talent and we want to benefit from that corporation. We want to recruit and attract that talent in Germany,” he explained.
