The theme is 'Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life'
The University of Kashmir will be hosting a Youth 20 (T20) consultation meeting Thursday (May 11, 2023) at its Central Campus in Hazratbal. The event is being held under the aegis of India's G20 Presidency and will focus on the theme of 'Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life'.
The consultations will provide a platform for open discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions aimed at addressing the challenges faced by young people and formulating a roadmap for their development.
During a pre-event press conference on Monday (May 8, 2023), Vice Chancellor Neelofer Khan stated that a communiqué will be prepared as an outcome document for the Youth 20 Summit 2023 based on the inputs from the discussions. She further mentioned that the University of Kashmir has got a historic opportunity to host the meeting and all arrangements have been made to ensure its success.
Khan stressed that the event is an opportunity for the youth to come forward and share their ideas on how they could contribute to addressing and mitigating the impacts of climate change. She claimed that the ideas generated will eventually be taken to the G20 platform and shall contribute to policy-making in critical areas.
To make the event more inclusive and result-oriented, Professor Khan said that participants have been invited from universities across the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh. The event will be attended by dignitaries from the Central Government, UT administration, youth leaders from G20 Countries, and national and international speakers, she added.
Flagging the importance of this event, Professor Khan said that holding the meeting at the University of Kashmir reflects its deep commitment to academic excellence. She also expressed confidence that this event will encourage the faculty, research scholars, and students to pursue their academic goals with greater vigour.
