The Quad leaders announced new initiatives including in infrastructure and clean energy
The third in-person Quad Leader's Summit held in Hiroshima, Japan on Saturday (May 20, 2023) saw a thorough review of efforts to address the priorities of the Indo-Pacific region.
The Quad leaders - Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese - also announced new initiatives including in infrastructure and clean energy in addition to launching the Quad Investors' Network.
Sharing information about the meeting on Twitter, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "Leaders reviewed efforts to address Indo-Pacific’s priorities on health security, climate change, critical and emerging technologies, infrastructure, connectivity and maritime domain awareness".
"Also announced new initiatives on Infrastructure Programme, the Clean Energy Diversification Programme, a Partnership for Cable Connectivity and Resilience and the Quad Investors’ Network".
Earlier scheduled to be held in Canberra, Australia, the venue of the Quad Leaders' Summit was shifted to Hiroshima, where all the leaders are gathered for the G7 Summit being hosted by Japan. President Biden had called off his visit to Australia to attend to a mounting fiscal crisis back home.
