India and Slovakia discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, culture, science and technology and people to people contacts during a virtual interaction on Friday.

Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan held virtual consultations with Ingrid Brockova, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia and both discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations, a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Multilateral issues, including cooperation at various fora such as the UN and the EU were also discussed.

They agreed to continue efforts to further step-up and broaden engagements between India and Slovakia.

India and Slovakia enjoy warm and friendly bilateral relations with the two sides, often supporting each other at the international fora.

Slovakia had supported Dalveer Bhandari’s selection to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the term 2018-2027 with a reciprocal support arrangement to support Slovakia’s Judge Peter Tomka for the term 2021-2030.

Then Slovakia, under reciprocal arrangement, supported India’s candidature to UNSC non-permanent seat for the term 2021-22, while India will support Slovakia’s candidature to UNSC non-permanent seat for the term 2028-2029.
