Terming it as an “action packed” visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in his post on X said, “An action-packed visit begins! On the first leg of his visit, PM will be visiting Nigeria, which is the first visit by an Indian PM to Nigeria in 17 years. In his departure statement ahead of a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said his trip to the West African country will be an opportunity to build upon “our Strategic Partnership that is based on shared belief in democracy and pluralism.”

Prime Minister Modi said this will be his first visit to Nigeria and he is visiting the African country at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also said, “I am also eagerly looking forward to meeting the Indian community and friends from Nigeria who have sent me warm welcome messages in Hindi.”

In the second leg of his three-nation visit, PM Modi will land in Brazil to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from November 18-19. As a Troika member, India will play a crucial role in discussions, building on its successful presidency of the G20 earlier this year.

“Brazil has carried forward India’s legacy of emphasizing Global South priorities. I look forward to meaningful discussions aligned with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ and to strengthening bilateral cooperation with global leaders,” PM Modi said in his departure statement.

PM Modi’s final destination is Guyana, where he will make history as the first Indian Prime Minister to visit in over five decades. His itinerary includes addressing the Guyanese Parliament and engaging with the Indian diaspora, whose roots in Guyana date back more than 185 years.

“Guyana holds a unique place in India’s heart, sharing cultural and historical ties. My visit, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, will focus on setting a strategic direction for our partnership while honouring one of the oldest Indian diasporas,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi will also participate in the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit during his visit to Guyana, reinforcing India’s commitment to its Caribbean partners and exploring avenues for expanded cooperation.
