It will cater to the large Indian expatriate community in Kuwait, which is estimated to number around one million people
In a landmark event that underscores the deep cultural and diplomatic ties between India and Kuwait, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait has announced the launch of the first-ever Hindi radio broadcast in the region. This significant initiative marks a historic moment in the 62-year diplomatic history between the two nations, symbolizing a major leap forward in cultural exchange and cooperation.

On April 21, 2024, the Indian Embassy announced the launch of a Hindi language program on Kuwait Radio, which is broadcast on FM 93.3 and AM 96.3 every Sunday from 8:30 to 9:00 PM.

This initiative received backing from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information, reflecting the strong bilateral relations that India and Kuwait have nurtured over the decades. The programme will cater to the large Indian expatriate community in Kuwait, which is estimated to number around one million people, making it the largest expatriate group in the country.

The launch of this radio program is not just a cultural event but a strategic enhancement of the diplomatic rapport between the two countries. In a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait hailed the commencement of the broadcast as a historic step that significantly deepens the relations between India and Kuwait.

The Indian community in Kuwait plays a pivotal role in various sectors such as engineering, medicine, finance, technology, and retail. The programme is expected to resonate with this audience by offering content that includes music, news, and cultural stories that foster a sense of connection with their roots while being away from home. Additionally, it can provide an opportunity for Kuwaiti and other nationals to explore Indian culture, promoting cross-cultural appreciation.

The radio broadcast also reflects the intertwined economic and diplomatic histories of India and Kuwait. Trade between the two countries has been vibrant, dating back to when the Indian rupee was legal tender in Kuwait until 1961.
